Foden ´still learning´ at Manchester City

Phil Foden is satisfied with the amount of first-team opportunities he is receiving at Manchester City.

England Under-21 midfielder Foden was handed a senior debut as a 17-year-old last season and has made 15 appearances across all competitions this time around.

However, he is yet to make a Premier League start and was absent from the matchday 18 as Pep Guardiola s men secured a vital 2-1 win over title rivals Liverpool on Thursday.

Foden is expected to start when Rotherham United visit the Etihad Stadium in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, as he has in each EFL Cup match for Pep Guardiola s men this term. The first leg of their semi-final at home to Burton Albion comes on Wednesday.

After signing a new long-term contract last month, Foden s levels of in…

Lewandowski will continue to be world´s best forward – Bayern boss Nagelsmann hails hat-trick hero

Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann backed Robert Lewandowski to continue to be the world s best forward as he highlighted the milestone man s longevity following his Champions League hat-trick.

Lewandowski marked his 100th Champions League appearance with a hat-trick as Bayern eased past Benfica 5-2 to seal their last-16 progress in Group E action on Tuesday.

The Ballon d Or contender became the sixth player to score on his 100th appearance in the Champions League, after Thierry Henry, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrea Pirlo and Toni Kroos, while the Poland captain is the first player to score more than once in the milestone game.

Urawa in the hunt for Nishino

J-League strugglers Urawa Reds have set their sights on soon-to-be-former Gamba Osaka manager Akira Nishino.

Urawa had hoped to sign former Japanese national team manager Takeshi Okada but their offer was rejected, according to Sports Hochi.

Okada led Japan to an unexpected round of 16 berth in last year s 2010 World Cup, with Urawa expected to offer him a multi-year contract worth around one million euros.

But the 2007 ACL winners have fallen on hard financial times, and with their first yearly deficit looming were unable to guarantee Okada s demands for an off-season acquisition budget that would make the Saitama side competitive.

The Reds are also competing with Chinese side Hangzhou Greentown, who have invited Okada to meet with club officials this …

Jordan 5 Palestine 1: Wilkins´ men bounce back in style

Palestine scored their first Asian Cup goal but it was not enough to keep their tournament alive as Jordan routed them in Melbourne.

Jordan thumped Palestine 5-1 in Melbourne on Friday to stay alive at the Asian Cup and end their neighbours first appearance at the tournament in the group stages.

Both teams were seeking to bounce back from defeat in their opening matches of Group D and it was Ray Wilkins side who responded in style at AAMI Park, with four-goal hero Hamza Al-Dardour and a Yousef Al Rawashdeh strike sealing all three points for the 2011 quarter-finalists.

While the result ultimately proved a formality, Jordan s preparations for the game could scarcely have been more chaotic.

Wilkins, who on Thursday forgot his tournament accreditation an…

BREAKING NEWS: Monchi leaves Roma amid Arsenal, PSG rumours

Roma have announced that sporting director Monchi has left the club.

The 50-year-old departs the Italian capital after just under two years in the role.

His exit comes only a day after head coach Eusebio Di Francesco was sacked in the wake of Roma s Champions League last-16 exit to Porto.

Monchi was appointed on a four-year deal in April 2017 after a hugely successful spell at Sevilla, where he helped the club to win five Europa Leagues and two Copas del Rey over 11 seasons.

However, he has come in for criticism for Roma s recruitment policy over the last year in particular and reportedly clashed with fans following the loss in Porto this week.

AS Roma and Monchi have mutually agreed to bring an early end to their professional relationship.

Arteta concedes World Cup break is not ideal for Arsenal´s title charge

Mikel Arteta would rather Arsenal s momentum not have been checked by the upcoming break for the World Cup after seeing his side go five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Captain Martin Odegaard scored twice as the Gunners secured a 2-0 victory against Wolves at Molineux in their final game before the mid-season break, meaning they will sit top of the pile at Christmas for the first time since the 2007-08 season.

With Manchester City having lost to Brentford earlier the day, Arsenal now have a buffer heading into the hiatus while they stand as the only side in the Premier League to have scored in every match this season.

Arteta will hope his side can pick up where they left off after the World Cup, though he concedes it is not the ideal situation for…
