Arsene Wenger: The Arsenal manager´s best moments

Arsene Wenger s 22-year spell as Arsenal manager will come to an end in May, with the 68-year-old having made the shock announcement of his departure on Friday.

The Frenchman took over in 1996 and has won 10 major trophies, including last season s FA Cup, which was clinched with a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Wembley.

Such a long spell in north London has produced numerous memorable occasions, both good and bad, but Wenger s status as a club legend – despite a clear split in the current opinion of fans – is secure.

Here, we look at five of the best moments from Wenger s reign.

What. A. Moment.

Adebayor scores on Basaksehir debut

Former Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor scored his first goal for Istanbul Basaksehir in his full debut for the club.

The 33-year-old Togo international had not found the net since February 2016 when he signed for the Turkish Super Lig club in January, but he opened his account within 55 minutes of making his first start against Konyaspor, scoring with a header from point-blank range.

Basaksehir are second in the league table, one point behind leaders Besiktas, and if they win the title Adebayor could lift his third trophy at club level after being part of the Real Madrid side that won the Copa del Rey in 2011 and the Manchester City team that won the Community Shield in 2013.

Adebayor scored one goal in 15 appearances for previous…

Fellaini sets date for announcement on future

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini will reveal a decision over his future on Sunday, saying there is no need to wait until the end of the World Cup .

The Belgium international will become a free agent on July 1 if it transpires that he has not signed a new contract at Old Trafford, and a move away from the club would bring his five-year stay in Manchester to an end.

Fellaini has been a divisive figure among United supporters since being signed by David Moyes in September 2013, making just 16 Premier League appearances in his first season at the club.

He enjoyed a brief renaissance under Jose Mourinho, playing 28 times in the top flight in 2016-17, but his opportunities were limited again the following season after Paul Pogba s arrival.

Bale resumes Real Madrid training ahead of Champions League final

Gareth Bale has resumed Real Madrid training ahead of next week s Champions League final against Juventus.

The Wales international suffered a calf problem in the 3-2 LaLiga defeat against Barcelona on April 23, making his comeback in the Clasico after previously suffering a similar injury against Bayern Munich.

Bale has been out of action ever since, missing the final stages of the domestic season as Madrid clinched their first title since 2011-12, but he could make his return in the showpiece in Cardiff on June 3.

The 27-year-old took part in Friday s training session without any noteworthy problems and seems ready for the upcoming clash with Juventus.

Portugal v Chile: Pizzi ready for tough challenge as champions of Europe and South America clash

Portugal midfielder Pizzi has warned that Chile remain one of the favourites to win the Confederations Cup as his side prepare to meet them in Wednesday s semi-final.

The Copa America holders were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw by Australia in their final Group B game, a result that allowed Germany to claim top spot in the group with a 3-1 win over Cameroon.

It means Juan Antonio Pizzi s side must return to Kazan Arena to face Group A winners Portugal, a team they last met in a friendly match in 2011, which finished 1-1.

Chile have failed to win any of their last three games with a European team and Fernando Santos side have only been beaten once in their last 10 matches.

But Pizzi – who made his first appearance of the competition from the bench in th…

Sherwood: Villa capable of beating United

Tim Sherwood says Aston Villa have nothing to fear ahead of their trip to Manchester United, with the manager insisting his team are capable of producing a shock result.

Villa travel to Old Trafford on Saturday as rank outsiders to end their 11-match winless streak against the Manchester club, with Sherwood s men hovering three points above the relegation zone, while United occupy fourth spot.

A total of 31 points separate United and Villa in the Premier League standings but Sherwood believes his side can beat the 13-time champions for the first time since December 2009.

I think they are beatable, they have only lost two games at home all season, they have a terrific record at Old Trafford, but every team can beat anyone, he said.

It would be an upset…

Emery hopes for good news as Arsenal face full-back crisis

Arsenal boss Unai Emery hopes to have at least one player recover in time for the visit of Liverpool on Saturday as his side face an injury crisis in defence.

Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac will be assessed as they battle back from hamstring injuries, while there will also be late fitness tests for Hector Bellerin (thigh) and centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos (ankle).

With Laurent Koscielny and Konstantinos Mavropanos still sidelined, the Gunners have been forced into defensive reshuffles in recent matches, which has included Granit Xhaka being deployed as a makeshift left-back.

However, with Matteo Guendouzi suspended and Mohamed Elneny also injured, Xhaka could well be needed in his regular midfield role when Liverpool visit Emirates Stadium.

He confronted me secretly – Mourinho hits back at Casillas claims

Jose Mourinho believes Iker Casillas secretly challenged his authority while the pair worked together at Real Madrid.

Casillas spoke bluntly about Mourinho s spell in charge of Los Blancos during a recent interview, five years on from the Portuguese becoming the first coach to drop the goalkeeper.

A broken hand in January 2013 ruled Casillas out for two months and the club acted by bringing in Diego Lopez from Sevilla – the Madrid youth product subsequently keeping his place even after Casillas returned to fitness.

Mourinho departed at the end of the 2012-13 season, though Casillas remained second choice to Lopez in the first campaign of successor Carlo Ancelotti.

Casillas said he would take the bull by the horns and confront Mourinho if he could ha…

Solskjaer: Manchester United should never be outworked

Manchester United caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he warned his players that they should never be outworked before Saturday s thrashing of Cardiff City.

The Red Devils claimed a 5-1 win in south Wales courtesy of two goals from Jesse Lingard and one each from Marcus Rashford, Ander Herrera and Anthony Martial.

It was the first time since Alex Ferguson s retirement in 2013 that United had scored five in a Premier League match, and marked an ideal start to life for Solskjaer, who replaced the sacked Jose Mourinho on Wednesday.

It was put to Solskjaer that this is the first league game in 2018-19 in which United had outrun their opponents they covered 104 kilometres compared to Cardiff s 99 and the former Norway star stressed that such work rate is a minimu…
