Manchester City hit by travel headache ahead of hectic fortnight

Pep Guardiola has revealed Manchester City are affected by travel problems during one of their most hectic periods of the season.

City have four away games in less than a fortnight, with Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup trip to Newcastle followed by a Premier League clash with Wolves, a Champions League outing to Leipzig and then another league game against Arsenal.

Guardiola’s men would normally travel back by train or plane to minimise time on the road but neither is available on Wednesday.

Almost time for action! |

“We cannot come back by plane because we don’t have planes to travel back so we have to take a bus, it’s two, three hours later, we arrive here so, so late,” said the Catalan.

Juventus can qualify for final, says Tevez

Juventus are well placed to reach the UEFA Europa League final despite their defeat to Benfica, according to striker Carlos Tevez.

Antonio Conte s Juve were beaten in Lisbon on Thursday, going down 2-1 to recently crowned Portuguese champions Benfica at the Estadio da Luz.

However Juve, who will host the Europa League final, remain in the tie after Tevez claimed an away goal for the Italian giants his first goal in European competition in five years.

My goal isn t the important thing, as it matters only that we are still in the running for qualification, Tevez told Sport Mediaset.

I am in good shape physically, so I m happy.

We ve got a very good chance of getting through to the next round. Qualification is wide open for the second leg.

Milan v Inter: Mancini returns for derby showdown

Roberto Mancini s bid to bring the good times back to Inter begins with a derby showdown against Milan in Serie A on Sunday.

Having been announced as Walter Mazzarri s replacement last week, Mancini s first task is to mastermind a triumph at San Siro that would take Inter above their bitter rivals in the Italian top flight.

Mancini won three league titles and two Coppa Italia crowns in his four-your spell at at the Inter helm, which ended in 2008, but he returns to a club struggling to live up to past glories.

A fifth-place finish last season left them without UEFA Champions League football this term and domestic form has been underwhelming, with Inter languishing in mid-table.

Leaders Juventus are 12 points clear of Inter, who ended the last decade with …

Adebayor scores on Basaksehir debut

Former Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor scored his first goal for Istanbul Basaksehir in his full debut for the club.

The 33-year-old Togo international had not found the net since February 2016 when he signed for the Turkish Super Lig club in January, but he opened his account within 55 minutes of making his first start against Konyaspor, scoring with a header from point-blank range.

Basaksehir are second in the league table, one point behind leaders Besiktas, and if they win the title Adebayor could lift his third trophy at club level after being part of the Real Madrid side that won the Copa del Rey in 2011 and the Manchester City team that won the Community Shield in 2013.

Adebayor scored one goal in 15 appearances for previous…

Fellaini sets date for announcement on future

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini will reveal a decision over his future on Sunday, saying there is no need to wait until the end of the World Cup .

The Belgium international will become a free agent on July 1 if it transpires that he has not signed a new contract at Old Trafford, and a move away from the club would bring his five-year stay in Manchester to an end.

Fellaini has been a divisive figure among United supporters since being signed by David Moyes in September 2013, making just 16 Premier League appearances in his first season at the club.

He enjoyed a brief renaissance under Jose Mourinho, playing 28 times in the top flight in 2016-17, but his opportunities were limited again the following season after Paul Pogba s arrival.

Bale resumes Real Madrid training ahead of Champions League final

Gareth Bale has resumed Real Madrid training ahead of next week s Champions League final against Juventus.

The Wales international suffered a calf problem in the 3-2 LaLiga defeat against Barcelona on April 23, making his comeback in the Clasico after previously suffering a similar injury against Bayern Munich.

Bale has been out of action ever since, missing the final stages of the domestic season as Madrid clinched their first title since 2011-12, but he could make his return in the showpiece in Cardiff on June 3.

The 27-year-old took part in Friday s training session without any noteworthy problems and seems ready for the upcoming clash with Juventus.

Portugal v Chile: Pizzi ready for tough challenge as champions of Europe and South America clash

Portugal midfielder Pizzi has warned that Chile remain one of the favourites to win the Confederations Cup as his side prepare to meet them in Wednesday s semi-final.

The Copa America holders were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw by Australia in their final Group B game, a result that allowed Germany to claim top spot in the group with a 3-1 win over Cameroon.

It means Juan Antonio Pizzi s side must return to Kazan Arena to face Group A winners Portugal, a team they last met in a friendly match in 2011, which finished 1-1.

Chile have failed to win any of their last three games with a European team and Fernando Santos side have only been beaten once in their last 10 matches.

But Pizzi – who made his first appearance of the competition from the bench in th…

Sherwood: Villa capable of beating United

Tim Sherwood says Aston Villa have nothing to fear ahead of their trip to Manchester United, with the manager insisting his team are capable of producing a shock result.

Villa travel to Old Trafford on Saturday as rank outsiders to end their 11-match winless streak against the Manchester club, with Sherwood s men hovering three points above the relegation zone, while United occupy fourth spot.

A total of 31 points separate United and Villa in the Premier League standings but Sherwood believes his side can beat the 13-time champions for the first time since December 2009.

I think they are beatable, they have only lost two games at home all season, they have a terrific record at Old Trafford, but every team can beat anyone, he said.

It would be an upset…
